End Prohibition National Director Nicole Seguin on Cannabis Day at the Vancouver Art Gallery

Today across the country Canadians celebrate our beautiful, peaceful country. The Vancouver Cannabis Community celebrated as well, marking the occasion with a peaceful marijuana demonstration that has become known as Cannabis Day.

The day has the tantalizing appearance of legalization but throughout the event political speeches urged attendees to become involved politically before being rendered helpless by prohibition incarceration. Established marijuana politicos Green Party Director-at-large and wife of Marc Emery, Jodie Emery, and End Prohibition Founder Dana Larsen took to the stage to remind the audience of the importance of continued political engagement and activism. WhyProhibition.ca creator and Free Marc Campaign organizer Jacob Hunter and myself also spoke about the Free Marc Campaign, and the use of civil disobedience to express onself.

All speakers noted that political prisoner Marc Emery was most notably absent from the event, as he is currently imprisoned in the United States for his political message and actions of overgrowing prohibition. Although he is locked away, as long as political pressure to end prohibition continues he is amongst us in spirit.
